They miss out on the playoffs for a second straight season. In fact they end up 10th in the Western Conference. After a solid first half where the Birds finished four games over .500 (15-11-3-4) the team went 12 games under .500 in the second half (12-24-2-1). That includes a nine game losing streak and 12 of 13 lost. It would be the second year in a row that a second half swoon would cost the team a shot at the playoffs.</span><br /><br /><br />Read the rest of the article at <a href="http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=745&sid=450968">MyNorthwest.com</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2897741705969198866-8816408526588245402?l=www.abirdbrain.net' alt='' /></div>Mike Caccioppolihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08928054690130751761noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2897741705969198866.post-48928417126385810092011-03-21T01:48:00.000-07:002011-03-21T01:48:04.308-07:00Thunderbirds end the season with OT loss to Americans<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">On the final day of the season for the Thunderbirds a spirited effort ended in a 4-3 overtime loss at the hands of the Americans, a team they simply could not defeat all season long.</span><br /><br /><br />Read the rest of the article at <a href="http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=745&sid=447789">MyNorthwest.com</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2897741705969198866-4892841712638581009?l=www.abirdbrain.net' alt='' /></div>Mike Caccioppolihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08928054690130751761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2897741705969198866.post-68510744108958970242011-03-19T23:43:00.001-07:002011-03-19T23:43:24.337-07:00Thunderbirds are eliminated from playoff race with loss to Portland<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">he Thunderbirds knew coming into this game against Portland that they had to win to have any chance at making the playoffs. They have won just five games since that point (5-17-1-1). Before defeating the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday they had lost 12 of 13 to fall out of the playoff picture. They have the worst home record in the Conference and fewest home wins in the league.</div><div style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">That is the harsh reality of the situation. Yet a playoff berth is not out of the question because of the struggles of the teams just ahead of the Birds. 15 games to go. 9 at home. I spoke with General Manager Russ Farwell about the state of the team with just about a month to go in the regular season.</div><br /><br /><br />Read the rest of the article at <a href="http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=745&sid=427085">MyNorthwest.com</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2897741705969198866-2631144182852428202?l=www.abirdbrain.net' alt='' /></div>Mike Caccioppolihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08928054690130751761noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2897741705969198866.post-1256268496804968722011-02-13T21:09:00.000-08:002011-02-13T21:09:25.909-08:00Thunderbirds upset the Chiefs to end eight game home skid<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">Behind a three point night by</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"><strong>Ryan Button</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">and a 57 save effort from</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;"><strong>Calvin Pickard</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">, the Thunderbirds defeat the Spokane Chiefs and break an eight game home losing streak .</span><br /><br /><br />Read the rest of the article at <a href="http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=745&sid=424048">MyNorthwest.com</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2897741705969198866-125626849680496872?l=www.abirdbrain.net' alt='' /></div>Mike Caccioppolihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08928054690130751761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2897741705969198866.post-14293699118553139872011-02-13T00:15:00.001-08:002011-02-13T00:15:50.586-08:00Thunderbirds are trounced by Winterhawks in Kent<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 15px;">The Thunderbirds give up six power play goals en route to an 8-2 loss to the Winterhawks.
